PRESS RELEASE

HALSTEAD & DISTRICT PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY

Dated – 5 August 2009

HEADER:                   Exhibition Success

Halstead & District Photographic Society was delighted at the success of some of its members in a recent exhibition.

Like most camera clubs in the UK, the Halstead Society is part of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB), a body that helps clubs set rules and run photographic competitions.  Each year the East Anglian branch of the PAGB invites club members to submit work to a panel of judges for evaluation.  Images that meet the scoring threshold are selected to be shown in an exhibition, which this year took place in May at the Civic Centre in Harlow.

The Halstead club was represented at the exhibition by work from members: Liz Akers, Nick Akers, Gillian Beckett, Brian Fleming and Phil Wiseman.

Work that, in the opinion of the judges, makes up the crème de la crème of entrants, goes on to be shown nationally under the PAGB umbrella.   Images from Brian Fleming and Phil Wiseman made it into this category, with Phil receiving an award from Don Byatt, one of the panel judges, for his print “All Round Nice Guy”.

Derek Collis, Halstead’s Club President, said: “We encourage all our members to submit work for this annual exhibition.  The standard is extremely high and we are always delighted when images are accepted but to the best of our knowledge it’s only the second time that a club member has been marked out to receive a special judge’s award.”
